Chiara has a Masters in Public International Law from LSE, and an Undergraduate degree in law from SOAS.
Before going to university she worked on President Obama's Re-Election Campaign and during her Masters
she worked in Parliament in the UK campaigning to lower the voting age to 16.
Chiara has been involved with Debate Mate since being a student on the programme in 2009,
to working full time as a Programme Director.
Blessie is in her first year reading mathematics at Durham University.
She joined Debate Mate first as a student, and is now a mentor.
She is a finalist of numerous university-level debating competitions,
and has represented Debate Mate on Sky News and BBC Radio 4.
Sarah is in her final undergraduate year studying Philosophy at the University of Leeds.
She has worked for Debate Mate for over two years, delivering after-school clubs and bespoke training days.
In both years, her debating teams have reached the Debate Mate national finals!
Eaad is a second year Mathematics student at the University of Birmingham.
He has worked with Debate Mate for over a year, and has taught students around the world, including in Rwanda.
Mohsin reads Mathematics at the University of Birmingham, and is currently in his second year of study.
He has worked for Debate Mate for over a year, and has taught across the UK, as well as internationally in Nepal.
Josh is a Second Year International History Student at the London School of Economics.
He is a former Debate Mate student, and has now been a mentor for 3 years.
A champion of debate tournaments all across the world, including in Poland, the UK and Malaysia,
Josh was also half of the 11th best team at the European Championships.
Iona is a third year student at King’s College London studying International Relations.
This is her 2nd year on the Debate Mate programme, and she also mentored on the Debate Mate international programme in Nepal this summer.
Gavin is currently a History and International Relations student at the School of Oriental
and African Studies where he is the president of SOAS debating society.
He has taught debating in a number of schools in the UK as well as organised multiple debating competitions.
He has been a part of Debate Mate for roughly 7 years, starting as a student then becoming a mentor.
Jessica is a passionate Jamaican educator. She has a teaching diploma in Literacy Studies,
and Bachelors of Education in Secondary English Education.
She has taught in China, the United States, and Jamaica for over nine years.
She currently a Programme Director with Debate Mate Jamaica and helped to run the Nepal Summer Programme in 2018.
Melanie is in her first year at Oxford University studying History and Politics.
She was the best speaker at the Durham University Debating Competition in 2018,
the largest British Parliamentary competition of its kind in the world.
She has been involved with Debate Mate since 2015, when she took part in the TV show called ‘Kings and Queens of Speech’, broadcast on Sky1.
Madeleine Potter Wood
Maddy is a second year undergraduate student studying Social Anthropology at the London School of Economics.
She has been mentoring with Debate Mate for two years, and in the summer taught the programme to students in Nepal.
